Framing

Where can I purchase my own frame?

Premade frames are usually the lowest cost option and are easy to find in big box stores such as Ikea, Walmart, Target, HomeGoods, HomeSense, Michael's and so on.

What size frame and mat should I purchase?

Premade frames are not always available in the exact size needed so purchase a frame that is bigger than your art print by 2 or more inches, then have a custom mat cut at a local framer to fit your print, be sure to bring your frame and artwork with you.
There are no rules that say you must use a mat but if you decide to skip it, be sure your frame is the same size as your print. All prints are trimmed to include an 1/8" white border (read below for custom borders).

Are the frames featured on this website available for purchase?

The frames on this site are my own which I have purchased from various sources, they are displayed to give you a better idea of how a print can look framed. Most customers either purchase the print alone and have it framed locally or they choose a frame available on the imagekind website. Please refer to the bottom of this page for more information about the frames I've used.

I'd like to buy a really large print, how much will it cost to frame?

Large or oversized prints (36 X 48" and up) usually require custom framing which can be pricey, however costs can vary greatly depending on the type of frame. It's best to contact several local framing shops in your area to receive the best quote.
In Toronto, to frame a 36 x 48" print, I've received quotes ranging anywhere from $130 to $500 for a basic frame that includes matting and foamboard.
Some shops carry a larger selection than others and can therefore accommodate smaller budgets.

My local framer is too expensive, where can I find lower prices?

The following websites offer some great prices for custom and ready made frames.

http://www.customframesolutions.com

http://www.ebay.com

Local thrift stores such as Salvation Army and Goodwill can be great for finding unique, low cost and even oversized frames.

Does the art print include any border?

Yes. All prints are trimmed to include an 1/8" white border.

Can I request a different border size for my art print?

Yes, during checkout look for the "Special Instructions" box where you can specify a preferable border size. Please note, there may be some limitations as to how much border can be added (depending also on the size of print being ordered). I've added as much as 3 inches on an order but contact care@imagekind.com to be sure.

Does Imagekind supply what is needed to hang my framed art?

Your professionally framed piece of art will arrive complete with hardware for hanging. Always use picture hangers for strength and security. I recommend using two hangers per picture for strength, security, and maintaining straight placement.
